About Ecis

Welcome to ECIS
ECIS (Eindhoven Centre for Innovation Studies) is a research centre based at the School of Innovation Sciences at Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands.
Innovation is one of the fundamental factors affecting the economic performance of firms, regions and countries, and social welfare and the quality of life at large. The research mission of ECIS is to enhance our understanding of the sources, nature and effects of innovation processes. Our research aims to provide useful insights for an effective governance/management of innovation processes at regional, national and international levels. This research is structured by the following five major research programs:

  • Modern Societies in Transition

  • Philosophy of Technology: Ethics and Epistemology of Innovation

  • Psychology of Human-Technology Interaction

  • System Innovations & Sustainability Transitions

  • Technology Flows, Knowledge Economy & Economic Performance

All these research programs look at innovation as a process involving a variety of interacting actors (firms, public research institutes, universities, consumers, users, etc.). Consequently, we adopt an interdisciplinary approach to innovation studies and one of the distinguishing features of ECIS is precisely to stimulate synergies and interactions between different disciplinary perspectives and methodologies both in the social sciences and humanities on innovation-related topics.
In order to stimulate such synergies, ECIS frequently organises workshops, seminars and conferences. More information on these events may be located on the "Seminars & Events" page of this website. Additionally, ECIS stimulates the creation of so-called "Synergy Projects" which aim to maximize inter- and transdisciplinary knowledge transfer between the five constitutive research programs.
